March 2017: Child welfare inequalities in Wales
Professor Jonathan Scourfield, CASCADE at Cardiff University
Professor Kate Morris Sheffield University
Dr Will Mason, Sheffield University
This seminar will tackle the relationship between deprivation and child protection. A recent four-nations study has shown that children are far more likely to be on child protection registers and come into care in the most deprived areas. In social care there is a tendency to take these inequalities for granted and see them as unavoidable. The seminar will open up possibilities for preventing such stark inequalities. It will include brand new research findings from Wales and also insights from England and Scotland that will resonate with the social care sector in Wales.
The event is aimed at practitioners and managers in children’s social care, especially from local authorities but also the third sector. There will be plenty of discussion time.
