‘Your plan, your voice’: New Thrive Magazine from the Young People’s Care Forum and The Fostering Network in Wales
The Fostering Network in Wales work directly with care-experienced young people to create magazines that speak to their concerns, document their experiences, and communicate important messages. The first edition of Thrive was published in 2005 and since then it has provided information, support and guidance to children and young people in foster care across Wales. Thrive provides a legitimate platform that empowers young people to have their say and express their views on what is important to them.
In 2019 The Fostering Network in Wales worked with young people to hear what they had to say about the digital world and this generated the Thrive magazine Your Life Online. In 2020, The Fostering Network in Wales and the Young People’s Care Forum worked with Brook Charity to explore the importance of young people in foster care having healthy relationships with friends, family, their boyfriends and girlfriends and their foster carers, which generated the Thrive magazine Healthy Relationships. More recently, the Young People’s Care Forum in Wales took part in workshops that explored the importance of having a pathway plan to help prepare for leaving care and detail the support that young people are entitled, too. This informed this latest edition of the Thrive magazine – Your Plan, Your Voice, which looks at the what, when and how of pathway planning and how young people can ensure that they are involved in the whole process.
