There is growing awareness of the need for better dementia research to improve the support given to people living with dementia.  The Alzheimer’s Society has estimated that 1 in 3 people born in the UK will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime.  This figure identifies the need to provide dementia support to people with a wide range of backgrounds and needs.

This conference focuses on how support can be provided to people living with dementia in a diverse world.  It covers a range of topics which will be invaluable for social care practitioners and includes presentations on how dementia support might be improved for minority ethnic and LGBT+ communities.  The conference will also focus on how a human rights approach might be considered within dementia care, the support which can be provided to people with down’s syndrome who have a diagnosis of dementia and on the value of focussing on food in community-based support groups.
