This one day training will increase awareness and understanding of anxiety and help to gain practical solutions to support young people.

Mental health amongst young people was rising pre-pandemic and during lockdown and subsequently most young people and adults experience some form of anxiety.

Participants will become familiar with the Polyvagal Theory and the work of Dr Stephen Podges and trauma and the work of Dr Bessel van der Volk and how trauma affects PTSD and OCD.  Health will be considered and how anxiety can increase levels of cortisol, blood sugar levels and diabetes and heart disease.  The training will look at the increase in anxiety, explore pre-, during and post-pandemic reasons for the increase.

Learning Outcomes

  • Increase understanding about the different types and causes of anxiety conditions such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder, OCD, PTSD and severe phobias
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms to look out for
  • Recognise how anxiety affects the mind, body and behaviours associated with this
  • What to look out for when you think someone is struggling with their mental health
  • Know how to have these discussions with clients when professionals are concerned
  • Understand why anxiety-related illnesses are increasing
  • Techniques on how to reduce stress and information that will increase your confidence and effectiveness in our own lives and the lives of those you support
  • Case history examples which highlight how the techniques covered can be easily implemented
  • How to be a positive role model and promote mental health and well-being in your everyday lives

Frontline works such as Social Workers, Health Professionals, Education and Support Staff, Housing and Youth Work practitioners.
