A payment for 16 to 18-year-olds, who want to continue their education

A grant for students aged 19 or over who are studying a course of further education at college


£1 bus fares for young people 16-21 from September

Single fares will cost just £1 and there will be £3 day passes available too. It will allow young people to enjoy unlimited travel with any participating bus services from 1 September for a year.

The Welsh Government is continuing to fund the cost of appeals for economically disadvantaged learners undertaking general and vocational qualifications in summer 2025.

School Essentials Grant open to help with school costs

The School Essentials Grant is available to families on lower incomes and those who qualify for certain benefits. All looked after children also qualify for the grant. 

The School Essentials Grant will open on 1 July 2025 and will close on 31 May 2026.

This includes help with the cost of school uniforms.

Free School Meals

All primary school children will be receiving free school meals as of September 2024.

Secondary school pupils may be eligible if their parents or carers receive certain benefits. To apply visit the Welsh Government page dedicated for school costs.
