Please join us for this free to attend webinar where you will hear key findings from the Children in Wales Annual Child and Family Poverty Survey Report.
Now in its 8th year, the surveys seek to gain more understanding of the facts and lived experiences behind the figures, and the impact poverty has on babies, children, young people and their families. Crucially, the surveys allow children, young people, parents, practitioners and professionals to share their views and experiences of poverty in Wales and to highlight the issues that are being faced right now, on a daily basis.
This year’s report will be launched during the webinar on 3 October 2024, so book your place now to hear the findings ahead of publication.
The 2024 report provides a summary of this year’s findings for each of the areas surveyed. We very much welcome the addition of our new parents’ survey this year. Hearing parents’ and carers’ views and experiences is essential in better understanding the impact and challenges that they face. Current statistics show that 29% of children in Wales live in poverty and all local authorities continue to experience high rates of child poverty.
The overriding theme emerging from this year’s surveys was the impact that poverty related issues have on the emotional wellbeing of children, young people and parents, affecting all aspects of their daily lives. The webinar will also share the challenges that parents are facing, from childcare barriers and accessing work, through to stigma and the rising cost of living.
The webinar will be chaired by Fran Targett, OBE and the authors of the report, Karen McFarlane, Anna Westall and Fatiha Ali will explore these and many other key findings from the survey analysis. The webinar will give participants a greater understanding of the daily issues faced by many children, young people and families who live in poverty and the impact this has. The webinar will include a Q&A session, providing the opportunity to ask questions about the findings directly to the authors.
