An online professional learning event to develop the Welsh history knowledge and skills of teachers to empower them to deliver the new curriculum.

9 March 2022

3:30 PM – 5:30 PM

This series of online professional learning events aims to develop the subject knowledge and skills of teachers in Welsh history to empower and enable them to deliver the Curriculum for Wales. It will develop teachers’ knowledge of some key events and themes in Welsh history and upskill them in using and understanding the possibilities of the digital archival resources that exist in Wales.

In the first event, staff from university history departments across Wales will deliver short talks highlighting recent research and key themes. These will focus on showing how Welsh history can be put in a global context, exploring how Wales was shaped by wider events but also contributed to the path of global and imperial history. The talks will focus on broad trends and themes that can be adapted and incorporated into curriculum design.

The talks will examine:

1. Wales and the British Empire

2. Wales and slavery

3. Wales’ global industries

4. Wales and the World Wars
